Hi Dolls, and we can not forget about the Gents! Welcome to EYE-LOVE Cosmetics. It is a blog about, you guessed it, Make-Up. More importantly it is about my journey as a Full-Time Accountant/Part-Time Professional Free-Lance Make-Up Artist, and the hardships I encounter to make it as a Full-Time Professional Free-Lance Artist. So sit back and enjoy the ride, I am sure it will be bumpy.

Wednesday

Mid-week and I am finally stabilizing after my previous weekend.  As everyone knows it is Fashion week in NYC; and what a tumultuous experience it is.  My weekend was jam-packed with numerous fashion shows and events.  I wanted to take the time out and share with you my experience.

Friday
Patricia Field's Lover's Ball - I was part of the team for Illamasqua, headed by Kim Anderson, to get dancers makeup ready for Ms. Field's soiree.  Makeup, as you all know, is my passion.  The look was based off of Illamasqua's new Throb Collection, resembling a harlequin-esque mask.  Before I stepped into Capitale, where the ball was held, I was having a mild anxiety attack.  What if I messed up?  But I took a deep breathe and remained composed.  After setting up the makeup stations, I felt somewhat at ease.  This is what you were born to do I reminded myself!

So at around 5:30 the dancers began coming in and it was game time.  One after the other we painted faces, when finished each masterpiece collected at the hair station.  The piece of work took an average on 30-45 minutes, and went faster with each girl we finished.  In the end we had done 14 women and 2 men.  They then dressed in their ornate costumes.

At around 9:45, it was showtime and the Illamasqua crew went downstairs to meet guests.  It is an unexplainable feeling when everyone is looking at your creation.  I felt accomplished.

My evening ended, but my weekend was just beginning.

I was in bed by 2 but I was up again at 6 a.m.  I was taking on the task as press for Fashion Week, for I write for Beautystat.com.  This was my first Fashion Week and naturally I was as excited as a little kid who was told she was getting a new bike.

Saturday
My morning started with United Bamboo, then Band of Outsiders and Toni Francesc.  The energy was electrifying and of course I was mesmerized by the makeup.  It occurred to me next Fashion Week I need to be on the other side; not press but makeup artists.  I had the please of meeting the fab artists Dick Page and Jackie Mdigo.  If I was to write my day in details so I am keeping this brief.  I headed back home around 7 and it was off to write up my day.  Bedtime was at 2:30.

Sunday
Oh to hear the birds chirping; I was up bright and early again for my last day covering Fashion Week; Lela Rose, Suzanne Rae, StyleList Bus, Open Studio for Lancome and Carmen Marc Valvo.  Sounds like a productive day, I know!! From the vintage look at Lela Rose to the 90s grunge look at Suzanne Rae, I was inspired.  The highlight of my day was the Open Studio for Lancome.  I was able to play with makeup and eat great food!  Hi, every girls dream.  I finished my night watching the Grammy's, which to my dismay was a BIG FAIL!

And the Award Goes To...

I was truly in awe in how beautiful the stars looked last night for the 68th Golden Globes.  From Natalie Portman to January Jones, Mila Kunis to Anne Hathaway.  For the most part everyone looked stunning.  There were of course some celebs who should have opted for a second opinion, cough, Helena Bonham Carter, cough.

We saw a lot of trends on the red carpet this year, particularly, stars paying more attention to their skin rather than the overall face.  Stars stuck to minimal makeup with glowy/dewy skin.  I have always been a fan of this look, but I like a little more umph.  For those who stuck with natural makeup, they could have been daring with a bold lip color.  These are the awards!!  Have some fun!

On the hair front we also saw some trends including straight tresses, modern french twists and 1950's inspired looks.  The 1950's look was classic and elegant and was one of my favorites of the night.  One celeb that pulled this off was January Jones.  Not only did she look like a movie siren with her makeup and hair flawless, her dress was to die for.

Overall I would say the stars shined last night!

Just a Virgo?

An hour on the train is enough to go through technological withdrawal.  So as the subway ascends above ground I frantically grab my phone - first stop Facebook.  I notice that everyone is commenting on their zodiac signs, so me the natural nosy body that I am second stop was google.  To my dismay I came upon the story that everyone was talking about - there is a new zodiac sign.

My birthday is September 22 and whenever asked what my sign is, my response was "I am a Virgo, but I am on the cusp so I am part Libra."  To give it a name it is the Cusp of Beauty and some descriptions - "Attracted to beauty which is physical and sensuous (whether in art objects, nature or people), these individuals are lured by color, shape, form, texture and the intriguing sound of music" and "sooner or later in their lives, they will have to address spiritual matters since they usually discover, at some point, that their love of externals is an inadequate preparation for the more unpleasant yet inevitable aspects of life..."

Hello I am a make-up artist obsessed with colors, whenever I am in a store I have to touch every fabric and I have been on a spiritual journey.  (Not to mention it also says we are sensitive to sound)  I feel like someone or something has stolen my identity, dramatic I know (Thank God you do not know me personally).  That something is Ophiuchus.  It seems that the dates for Virgo have been moved to Sept. 16 - Oct. 30

The reason for the change has to to with the sun's positioning for the full story read it here - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/13/new-zodiac-sign-dates-oph_n_808567.html#s223863&title=kristin_leigh

I just need to rant, thanks for listening.

A Gem

On the train and I get in my head that I need a green plaid blazer!  So as soon as I get to work I of course google my future blazer and all of a sudden I am introduced to my new obsession - yesstyle.com.  Its always super exciting when you stumble upon an amazing website so when I found this website I almost cried tears of joy.  Not only did they have a blazer that I fell in love with but they have a whole faux fur section.  I am opposed to wearing real fur, it is just cruel, but I found an amazing faux on here.  Take a look.

Up In Flames

Better late than never is my motto and although Khloe Kardashian debuted her red locks last week I just had to comment on them.  The Kardashian clan strutted down the red carpet for the People's Choice Awards last week and one Kardashian member stood out.  Khloe had a glow around her and that was her new colored tresses.  I am obsessed with red hair, for I am in the middle of contemplating my metamorphosis.  I think this look is gorgeous on Khloe, it enhances her skin tone and makes her distinguishable from her sisters.

What are your thoughts?

Snowed In

Thank God for the snowstorm because I can finally catch up on my writing - an added Christmas gift.

I had a lovely Christmas - getting some much needed R&R after quite a hectic week.  It was amazing to spend time with my family and the people who matter the most in my life.  It is so easy to get caught up in life to forget what matters most.

Life is too short to be miserable and unhappy.  My goal for 2011 is about prioritizing!

Whirlwind

I apologize for the lack of posts, I have been in this whirlwind of opportunities...writing for Beautystat.com , freelancing for Laura Mercier on Saturdays and trying to post blogs - all while maintaining a full-time accounting position.  I am far from complaining, I love being busy and I am happily bobbing along in the current of life.

I do have some exciting stuff to share - two things to be exact.  Wednesday I attended the Dior/Lucky luncheon through Beautystat.  I have never attended a luncheon and I was quite excited.  Upon entering Conde Nast I felt like I was in my own version of "The Devil Wears Prada," the women were dressed to the nines but that is where the similarities ended.  The woman I met were all amazing and extremely sweet.

I sat and chatted with Stephanie, owner of Stiletto Jungle, and then all of us girls were escorted into a room where the presentation was being held.  Over lunch the women from Dior passionately spoke about the products and we received knowledge of new products that are to come in the following months.  The most exciting news was that Natalie Portman will be the new face of Miss Dior Cherie, giving a more sensual and sexy feel.  After the presentation we were whisked away by Dior make-up artists for a make-up consultation.  How I love to play with make-up!!  It was a wonderful day.

My other exciting news is some of the Jersey Shore Season Three promo pictures were released.  Why am I excited?? Because I helped assist do the make-up on the shoot.  (Make-up artist: Raychel Wade and Bridget Lembo) We did the make-up back in September; the new season of Jersey Shore is set to premiere January 6th.
